London and St. Mary's Island may be worlds apart, but in reality they're separated by a 47 minute train journey. It's a fact that has attracted an exodus of people to the island, drawn by the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the City, but not feel out of touch. It really is the perfect location to enjoy the best of both worlds. As one resident put it, "I can have breakfast on my verandah, watching the sun come up over the Medway estuary, and an hour later be at my desk in the City. Priceless."
Priceless indeed, although ironically, the homes on St. Mary's Island can be up to a third of the price of their London equivalents. It's no surprise then that so many people are moving out of London, but still enjoying a capital lifestyle.
St. Mary's Island is also in close proximity to the M20, M2 and M25 motorways, providing easy access to Gatwick, Stansted and City airports and the Eurostar at Ashford. Bluewater, the largest shopping mall in Europe, is also less than 15 miles away.

How to get to the island by road
St Mary's Island, Chatham Maritime is located off the A231 approximately one mile north of Chatham town centre. From the west M25/A2: Leave the A2 at the A2/M2 junction, follow signs to Chatham Maritime via the A289 and the new Medway tunnel. Leave the tunnel at the first exit and follow the signs to St Mary's Island. From the south: From the M2 junction 3, take the A229 and then the A230 and follow signs to Chatham town centre, then follow signs to the Historic Dockyard and St Mary's Island. Descend Dock Road, over the main roundabout on to Maritime Way and then follow the signs for Axis.
By Rail - There are frequent train services from London Victoria to Chatham. Journey time is approximately 45 minutes. There are also less frequent services to London Bridge and Waterloo.
By Air - Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton are within easy reach via M2/M25. There is a private airport at Rochester
and helicopter landing facilities are available within the Chatham Historic Dockyard.
By Boat - The River Thames can be accessed from Basin 1 via the River Medway. The marina is operated by Marina Developments Ltd (MDL).
